2022 activity report

Thanks to your generous donations, the Kodomo Food Bank KFB, a general incorporated association, was able to successfully operate in 2022. Despite staff maternity leave and other issues, we are grateful that we were able to continue our activities without reduction thanks to the cooperation of our volunteers.

Thanks to the generous donations and contributions from everyone, primarily the Okinawa City Social Welfare Council, our meal support activities continued, and we were able to distribute the food to each household as planned. In addition to the Santa Claus project we started last year, we were also able to implement a school bag project to help new elementary school students with school bags and other school-related preparations, allowing us to provide even more comprehensive support to children in need.

Due to a decrease in staff, we were unable to increase the number of opening days at the children's cafe, resulting in activities similar to last year. Thanks to a grant from the Central Community Chest of Japan, "Shimizu Scholarship Association x Central Community Chest of Japan Grant to Support the Learning and Lives of Children in Economic Difficulty and Social Isolation," we were able to take the children on field trips to factories and facilities throughout the prefecture, and we also introduced computers for learning, allowing the children to learn computer skills for their future. Members of the nearby Koza Baptist Church kindly renovated the interior and exterior of the cafe free of charge, making it beautiful and easy to use. Issues such as increasing the number of opening days and staff have become apparent from the children themselves, prompting us to consider our activities for the next year.

Thanks to our employment support activities, two graduates of our children's café have found jobs at companies outside the prefecture and are working diligently.

2022 was a financially challenging year, and we had to consider whether to continue our activities. However, thanks to everyone's support, we were able to overcome those difficulties, and we realized once again that our activities depend on your cooperation. We would greatly appreciate your continued support and cooperation in the future.

2023 activity guidelines

The Kodomo Food Bank KFB, a general incorporated association, will continue its meal support activities and children's cafe activities this year as well.

In terms of operations, we plan to strengthen our activities to increase the number of days we are open and to enhance support for the children, including the return of staff members who went on maternity leave last year and the recruitment of new full-time staff. To address the increased expenses associated with the addition of staff, we will increase the number of donation boxes placed throughout the prefecture, engage in crowdfunding and participation in the hometown tax system, and focus on promotional activities to make it easier for everyone to donate and to gain broad support.

Our meal support activities will continue in cooperation with the Okinawa City Social Welfare Council and all those who donate and contribute, so that we can quickly provide food to those who need support.

We've decided to increase the operating hours of our children's cafe from two days a week to four days a week by the end of the year. We plan to divide the time to accommodate as many children as possible.

Regarding employment support, we will maintain our network with cooperating individuals both within and outside the prefecture so that we can respond immediately when those in need seek assistance.

This year, our entire staff will do our best to improve the situation for children in Okinawa, even if only slightly, so we would appreciate your cooperation and support.
